Spatial Characterization of Smallholder Zones in Uganda

چکیده

The critical first step for the regionalization analysis was to use the description of the Kenya smallholder dairy environments and extrapolate those conditions over Uganda and Tanzania. This kind of evaluation of other countries would not have been possible using the traditional Jaetzold and Schmidt agro-ecological zone map as their zonation scheme was designed specifically for Kenya and was not applicable in Uganda or Tanzania. Using the description of the resulting ‘types’ of smallholder from the spatially defined areas in Kenya (details in Table 2.4.5), we sought similar biophysical situations throughout Uganda and Tanzania. The results of that initial extrapolation are presented in Figure3.1-1.
